On episode 15 of Granite Goodness, Andy talks to Portsmouth Mayor Deaglan McEachern, who in his own words was formerly known as “a kid named Deaglan with an eyepatch”. In this interview the Mayor actually never explains why he wore an eyepatch during his childhood because he is too busy hyping up the Granite State, Portsmouth, and trying to solve problems through consensus and positivity. Andy unsuccessfully attempts to pitch the Mayor on building a 120 ft. “Deaglan of Portsmouth” statue like the Colossus of Rhodes.
The two cover the Mayor’s journey into politics, the difference between being a “politician” versus a “public servant”, the role of technology in democratic discourse, what is unique and good about America, the past and future of Portsmouth and NH, staying “human” while in elected office, and give a very a special shout out to Andy’s mom.
Deaglan McEachern is the 75th Mayor of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
